Adding DDR3 SDRAM to Your Computer

RAM is one of the key components of any computer and while it important to consider the capacity when choosing a memory stick, users usually overlook other key elements such as performance and the RAM type. DDR3 (double data rate 3) is a type of synchronous dynamic RAM with a high bandwidth interface. The memory module supports maximum data transfers of 6400 Mbps and is available in both DIMM and SO-DIMM form factors.

What is the Difference between DDR, DDR2, and DDR3 SDRAM?

DDR RAMs have been in use for quite some time now. The memory modules are capable of two data transfers per clock cycle, giving it twice the peak bandwidth of the older SDRAM while running at the same clock speed.

  • RAM speeds: The higher the clock speed, the faster the memory module. The RAM frequency rate shows how fast the clock speed is and calculates in MHz. The number usually shows next to the memory type. For instance, in a DDR3-1600, the frequency rate would be 1600 MHz.
  • Latency: RAM performance is all about the latency and speed. Latency is the delay time between the moment a memory controller tells the memory module to access a particular memory column on a RAM module, and the moment the data is available for output. In simpler terms, it is the time delay between when you enter a command and when the computer executes it.
  • Power consumption: All the integrated memory chips on the DDR RAM standard works fine at 2.5volts. The voltage lowers with each subsequent generation with the DDR2 requiring 1.8 volts and the DDR3 a mere 1.5 volts.

Why Should You Consider Super Talent DDR3 SDRAM?

  • High frequency rates: The DDR3 modules are unbuffered meaning there is no additional hardware (register) between the memory and the CPU. This brings added efficiency and increased performance. Users are also able to get dual channel kits further increasing the performance of their laptop or desktop computers.
  • Compatibility: The modules are compatible with most motherboard chipsets included the popular Intel and AMD systems. In addition, the DDR3 SDRAM sticks can work in both notebooks and desktops.
  • Wide variety: The manufacturer offers a wide range of storage capacities with their memory modules ranging from as low as 2 GB up to 16 GB and even 32 GB.

Super Talent provides different memory kits including the 8 GB kit popular with gamers and computer enthusiasts. Some of the memory modules also come with heat spreaders, which provide thermal dissipation for stable performance and durability.
