White's Electronics Metal Detectors

White's Electronics Metal Detector

White's metal detectors can be used to search for metallic objects buried underneath the ground, stuck in the sand, or hidden in tall grass. You will be able to choose from models with a number of different features depending on your needs.

How do White’s metal detectors work?

A White's metal detector uses electromagnetic waves to find buried metals for you to unearth. The initial electromagnetic wave is generated when the metal detector is turned on. On the end of the wand of the metal detector is an oval-shaped section. Inside the oval-shaped part are two identical coils of wire that are placed on top of one another. The electricity flowing between the two coils activates the electromagnetic field when the metal detector turns on.

How does the electromagnetic field detect metals?

The electromagnetic field sends waves into the dirt as the metal detector sweeps back and forth over the surface of the ground. When a piece of metal is located, the energy from the electromagnetic field interacts with the atoms that make up that piece of metal in the ground and sends them into an excited state. The piece of metal in the ground gives off its own electromagnetic field once the atoms get excited. The White's metal detector picks up the second electromagnetic field and alerts the metal detector's operator through a buzzer or beeper that a metal object has been found underground.

How does a White's metal detector determine types of metals?

White's metal detectors have the ability to differentiate between low-value ferrous metals like tin cans and high-value non-ferrous metals like silver and gold. This is done using the discriminator mode setting on the control handle. The mode can be set to recognize, or not distinguish, certain types of metals. This can be used in cases where you want to search an area where a lot of cans or nails can be found in the ground and you are there looking for gold or silver coins. The discriminator can be set to differentiate between the two metal types so the buzzer doesn’t go off when you find a soda pop can.

How do you operate a White's metal detector?

The metal detectors come with a strap that is placed over the shoulder for carrying and sweeping. The control panel consists of a few buttons to operate it. Metal detectors have a computer chip in the control panels that will do most of the work.
