A Guide to White Notebooks and Laptops

Portable computers allow you to take your work with you wherever you need to go, so you can still make that video conference call even if you have an appointment to get to. When working out of the home, white laptops can also give the machine a clean look, especially if you want to use it in meetings or at school. These devices come with a variety of different options depending on your needs.

What are the differences between notebooks and laptops?

Although notebooks and laptops can both be used for many similar tasks, there are some traditional differences between the two. The differences include:

  • Notebooks: These machines generally weigh less than 6 pounds and are designed to fit inside of a briefcase. Many notebooks use flat-panel technology to reduce potential bulkiness. They also often feature the same CPUs, disk drives, and memory capacity as personal computers. However, they feature a thinner design and fewer features in order to focus on mobility.
  • Laptops: These personal computers are designed to be similar to a desktop with the exception that they are able to fit on your lap. These machines generally have the same features as desktops as they are designed to be a replacement for larger devices.
What sizes are available?

White laptops and other personal devices come in a wide range of display size options. When it comes to portable devices, the size is indicated by the diagonal length of the screen, meaning that the overall size of the device may actually be larger. Some of the available sizes include:

  • 10.1-inch devices like the Acer Aspire Switch 10
  • 11.6-inch models like the 2-in-1 HP touchscreen Chromebook or Acer Chromebook
  • 13.3-inch devices like the LG Ultra-Slim
  • 14-inch devices like the HP Stream or Sony VAIO
  • 15.6-inch devices like the Acer Chromebook 15
  • 17-inch like the HP 17.1 Chromebook
What hardware and software should you consider?

When looking for a portable machine, you may want to consider whether or not a machine will meet your needs. Some considerations to make include:

  • Operating system: In general, a laptop will either run Windows, macOS, or OS X versions. The different operating systems set up your device differently and use different software.
  • Memory and storage: Larger systems tend to have more storage and RAM, though this is not always the case. Depending on the size of the internal hard drive, a device may have anywhere from 32GB or less to 700GB or more.
  • Computing power: In addition to the type of processors a device may have, also consider looking at the processor speed. This is denoted in GHz. The faster the speed, the less time it takes for the machine to complete certain tasks and run the needed software.
  • Entertainment: Some laptops may come with music players, video players, and software that allow you to play a variety of games.
  • Connections: USB ports, HDMI ports, and even Bluetooth or Wi-Fi capabilities let you connect with other devices or transmit data, like documents or photographs, from your device to others.
