Toyota Matrix Wheel Center Caps

When youre zipping around in Toyotas compact hatchback, you may not notice if you lose one of the wheel center caps. However, you will notice that your car doesnt look quite as sharp without it. Factory-made center caps are available for this Toyota when you need to replace one that is damaged or missing.

Center caps are the small plastic disks in the center of the wheel. At first glance, you may think they are purely decorative. They give wheels smooth surfaces and a more finished look, and they can provide a car with a bit of extra personality.

Center caps do have a more serious job than just looking good, though. They help protect the inner workings of the wheel from all the dirt and grime that gets thrown up from the road.

There are several different sizes, styles, and finishes available for the Matrix center caps. Some of the differences are small and may not be obvious if you are trying to do a visual match.

If you want to be sure you are getting the right OEM replacement parts, match the part numbers. You can find this information on the back of the center caps. Pop one off the wheel, and keep the number in front of you when you shop.

• Size and shape: This Toyota model uses a round center cap. Across all model years, the cap may be either 2.25 or 2.5 inches in diameter, depending on the trim package. Again, check the model number to be sure you are getting the right size.
• Finish: All the caps for this model are some variation of a silver tone. Most have a silver background with a raised chrome emblem and rim. The background may be textured or lightly ribbed. Some caps are bright, smooth chrome with a raised chrome emblem and no rim.
• Clips: The center caps attach to the wheels by plastic clips on the back. Some have four clips, and some have eight.

To remove the old caps, carefully pry them off with a flathead screwdriver. If youre concerned about damaging the finish, you can cover the end of the screwdriver with tape.

The replacement center caps snap into place from the front of the wheel. Position them over the hole in the rim, and push until the clips lock. You may have to tap them sharply, but dont use too much force or the clips could break.
