Ford Excursion Wheel Center Caps

The extended length of the Ford Excursion SUV gives you plenty of room to load up the gear and hit the road. If that road has a few ruts and bumps along the way, a wheel center cap may go flying, never to be seen again. Fortunately, Ford Excursion wheel center caps are easy to replace, and Ford originals are still available.

Ford Excursion wheel center caps are important on an SUV since these vehicles are designed to be driven under rough, challenging conditions. Mud, water, and debris of all kinds can get tossed up into the wheels as you drive. City streets also have their share of grit and trash.

Wheel center caps help deflect all this muck. They keep the hub nut and lug nuts from becoming packed with dirt, and they keep water from corroding the nuts and bearings. Keeping these essential structures clean gives them a longer, safer life.

Although Ford produced the Excursion from 1999 through 2005, there are only two styles of center caps that were used on this vehicle. Within the more common style, there are differences in finish.

If you want to be sure the center cap you’re considering is really a match for your Excursion, work from the part number. As long as you still have at least one cap on your SUV, pop one off, look at the back, and you’ll see a part number. This is what you want to match when you’re shopping.

• Standard: The stock center caps used on most Fords throughout the production years are round. They incorporate eight lug nut covers around the edges. The caps are 8.375 inches in diameter, including the lug covers. They may be either black or chrome. The two-wheel drive Excursions have four center caps that are closed at the end, and they have the oval Ford emblem in the center. The 4x4 Ford Excursions also require center caps with open ends on the front wheels and closed ends on the rear wheels.
• Limited: If your Excursion has the limited trim package that was available from 2003 through 2005, it has distinct center caps. These caps are round, and the squared lug covers are more fully integrated into the design. These center caps are also chrome and have a black badge in the center with “limited” written in silver script.

To remove the parts, look for a slot on either side. Insert the lug wrench that came with the vehicle into one of the slots and carefully pull the cap off. You may need to work it loose by pulling on one side for a bit, then the other side. It’s also not a bad idea to pad the wrench with tape or a cloth to protect the finish of the center caps. To install a replacement, align it with the lug nuts and push or tap it until it clicks into place.
