Neon Car Light Strips: Safety and Style

There are a number of ways to customize your ride to improve its looks at any time of the day, but few modifications can trump the appeal of a good neon lighting setup. It doesn't even have to be all that bright, and a nice bonus is that it increases your visibility on the road, which translates to better road safety.

What Are the Advantages of Using Neon Car Light Strips?

  • Better Visibility: Installing a neon LED set-up is not only for the style points. You can put LED lights inside or outside of your ride to improve visibility, such as inside the cabin, especially in the footwells. You could also line your interior ceiling with a neon light kit to supplement the stock lamp in your cabin. Outside of your vehicle, you can install a kit for underglow to increase the underbody appeal of your car or truck. You can also augment your headlight, car plate light, and trunk light with LED neon lights.
  • Easy Installation: Many lights come in kits that are easy to install and wire into your car. As always, consult the manufacturer's instructions on installing the lighting on your truck, car, or other vehicles. It typically involves mounting the strips or tubes in your desired locations and running the wires under some exterior or interior panels to hide them. Some kits include multiple powering options, such as expandable circuits to be plugged in the interior or exterior fuse box.
  • Customizable: You can hook up as many neon light kits as you want to improve the overall looks of your vehicle. Others include a wireless remote accessory and can mix red, blue, and green lights to project any color in the spectrum.

What Types of Neon Car Light Strips Are Available?

  • LED: This stands for "light emitting diode" and can project bright white lights and vivid color for noticeable underglow effects. You can mount LEDs easily on the underbody of the car or truck with fasteners and zip ties. Depending on the kit you buy, LED lights can get very bright. They also have low running temperatures and low power draw so they are efficient to run even in the daytime.
  • Xenon: Xenon lighting is bright, efficient, but outputs a lot of heat. This may not present a problem when mounting the lights outside, but take this in mind when choosing Xenon lighting for interior applications.
  • Rope Lights: Rope lights are a type of LED lighting typically available in white. You can use them as accent pieces for headlights, and some may come with strobe functions depending on the model. The LED light flows consistently down the rope to give the impression of molded neon lights when applied correctly.
