Hull Hugr Boat Anchoring and Docking Gear

Protect your boat and all your personal watercraft from scrapes and dents when tied up at the dock. Hull Hugr bumpers come in many different sizes and shapes and cover anything from dock corners to the sides of your boat, canoe, or jet ski. Bumpers and fenders absorb the watercrafts energy for a smoother, safer docking process with less bounce and rebound.

How do you choose the right fender type?

When choosing the proper protection for your vessel, the following must be first taken into consideration: the vessels weight, its length, and the mooring conditions.

The main types of boat fenders are:

  • Sausage or cylindrical double eye, which work well with shorter and lighter watercraft.
  • Center hole round and hybrid cylindrical round work better for large, heavy vessels.

As a general rule, the cylindrical type should have 1 inch diameter for every 4 to 5 feet of vessel. The round type should have 2 inches diameter for every 4 to 5 feet. Use one piece for every 10 feet of the vessels waterline. For a 20-foot vessel, you would need three pieces, and for a 40-foot vessel, youd need four pieces. Place one at the widest part of the craft and distribute the others evenly at fore and aft.

What types of materials are used in boat-protection gear?

Because of the harsh marine environment, and in order to stand up to years of use, anchoring and boat-protection gear is made of high-density, closed-cell polyethylene foam on the inside. The outside is made of UV-resistant, rip-proof polyester tri-laminate material.

How do you mount the fenders on your watercraft?

Mounting your Hull Hugr boat anchoring and docking gear includes easy-to-mount suction cup straps that attach to a gel-coat surface or to windshields. The suction cup straps adjust from 1 inch to 24 inches in length and are great for lightweight watercraft. If you need something a bit longer, there are no-slip straps that you can attach to cleats or rails. You can adjust the length from 6 inches to 40 inches. These are great for most mooring situations.

How do you position the equipment on your vessel?

Hang the mooring gear so that the bottoms just lightly skim the surface of the water, and then raise them an inch or two and shackle them to a solid tie point such as a cleat or anchoring station.

How do you care for your anchorage equipment?
  • Scrub them down periodically. Use plain soap and water rather than harsh chemical cleaners.
  • Get washable covers to protect your equipment and make cleanup even easier. Youll also extend the life of your equipment.
  • Store them out of the sun and elements whenever they are not in use.
