What are Evinrude propellers made from?

How do you choose the right propeller

Choosing the right propeller is the single most crucial decision while building your motor. However, several factors control how a prop will affect your boats performance, from diameter and pitch to ventilation. First, you need to ask yourself a few questions about what you want out of your boating experience.

  • What kind of boating experience do you desire?
  • What type of boat do you have?
  • How fast do you want to go?
  • What type of engine do you have (i.e., E-TEC, Jet, etc.)?
What is prop pitch and what kind do you need?

It is the forward movement of a propeller through one complete revolution measured in inches. This measurement determines how you decide what prop pitch you need.

  • Lower the prop pitch to improve acceleration speed and pulling power.
  • Raise it for lower speeds.
  • A higher prop pitch can still allow faster boat performance as long as the engine has enough power to run at a higher speed.
  • For a more flexible option, consider a CCP, which is a kind of prop with blades that can be turned on its long axis to modify the pitch.
