LCD Screen Replacement For Your Tablet

A liquid crystal display (LCD) is a type of screen found in electronic devices such as smartphones, tablets, and TVs. It is different from LEDs and gas-plasma displays in that, instead of emitting light, it blocks the light. Due to occasional falls and entry of fluids among other causes, LCD screens do get damaged. Luckily, you don't have to buy a new tablet when this happens as you can get a replacement. The LCD screens can come individually or as an assembly, including the touchscreen, digitizer frame, and the backlight film.

What is the difference between a touch screen and an LCD screen?

  • Touchscreen - This part is also referred to as the digitizer. It is the thin transparent layer found at the top of your tablet just beneath the front glass lens. The function of the touchscreen digitizer is to read the signal once you touch the screen and to transport it to the device's processing unit. With a damaged touchscreen, you lose the touch function but will still be able to see images and texts on the tab.
  • LCD screen - This panel is located beneath the digitizer in the tab and you need to disassemble the device to get to it. Its function is to display the images you see on your tablet. A black hole or webbed lines on the screen and/or images not showing on the display as they should is an indication that there is a problem with the LCD.

What should I consider before getting an LCD screen replacement for my Samsung Galaxy Tab 3?

  • Compatibility with the model - The model part number is indicated on your device. It should guide you to the screen you need to purchase.
  • Size of the screen - Samsung Galaxy Tablets range in size from 7 inches up to 10.1 inches. It is important to confirm the size of your tab before purchasing the screen.
  • Screen resolution - The LCD screen resolution measured in horizontal and vertical pixels is also a determiner of what you should get. Higher resolutions mean higher image qualities and vice versa.
  • Backlight for the screen - These are usually of two types; the cold cathode fluorescent light (CCFL ) and the light emitting diodes (LED) backlight systems. The former utilizes a daylight specter fluorescent tube while the latter, which is the most common in the Samsung tablets, uses LED strips.
  • Finish and color - For LCDs that come with the touchscreen layer, you can choose between one with a matte finish or the glossy type depending on what you prefer. The colors available are mostly black or white.
