Dell Wireless Computer Mice for a Cord-Free Computing Experience

The mouse is the most ubiquitous of laptop and desktop computer accessories because it provides a natural way to interface with work and entertainment. While the traditional mouse connects to PCs and other devices via a cord, a wireless mouse from Dell communicates wirelessly and thus without that hindrance. Being wireless isn't the only characteristic that defines these mice, and you'll find a wide range of features and options to customize your experience.

All computer mice require an endpoint with which to communicate. For a wired optical mouse, that endpoint is a USB or PS/2 connector inserted into an appropriate port. A wireless mouse, on the other hand, may communicate with a dongle instead, and that dongle inserts into the USB or PS/2 port. A dongle is used to provide the wireless facility, but that may be unnecessary if your computer has that facility either via the motherboard itself or an internal component attached to the mainboard. The common transmission means used for wireless mice include:

Transmissions need to be tagged so that both the wireless receiver and wireless mouse recognize that a particular signal is intended for them. Pairing can be a manual process, but that's unusual. Most wireless receivers and mice come pre-paired and are able to recognize each other automatically.

Radio frequency is abbreviated RF. All RF-based input devices, including Bluetooth, communicate via a particular frequency. The usual frequency for both standard RF and Bluetooth is 2.4 GHz. There can be interference at this frequency from wireless networks and phones. If interference is a concern, you can purchase a mouse that operates at 5 GHz or even higher, which makes it less prone to that noise.

Mice from Dell are generally powered using batteries. Such a mouse will typically use AA batteries, which is an industry standard. Batteries are accessed via a plate that slides or screws off, and you can use either discardable or rechargeable batteries. Also, some mice that have built-in, rechargeable batteries, charged via a docking station, USB cable, or other means.

DPI stands for "dots per inch," which is a measure of how sensitive a mouse is. A mouse with a high DPI will require less wrist or arm movement to move the cursor across the screen. Mouse sensitivity is a matter of preference. As such, a productivity or gaming mouse will often have a physical or software-based DPI switch or both so that the user can dictate the appropriate sensitivity for the task at hand.
