Keep Your Computer Cool with a Dell CPU Fan

Established in the early 1990s, Dell is a popular electronic brand that exclusively sells laptops and desktops. Dell products are known to be powerful devices that are sustainable and useful; however, keeping your Dell devices cool with a CPU fan is essential to continue to enjoy the many benefits of your computer.

What is a CPU fan?

The CPU fan is a fan that cools down the CPU. The bigger question is, what is the CPU? The CPU (also knows as the central processing unit), is responsible for handling all of the calculations that the computer is given. Essentially, the CPU is the brain of the computer. When the components in the motherboard work, they begin to get hot. When this happens, it is necessary for them to be cooled in order for them to continue working properly.

What is a heatsink?

In an attempt to cool the motherboard and other components as effectively as possible, Dell computers have something called a heatsink. This is another component that works in sync with the fan to cool the components in the laptop. The heatsink serves the purpose of absorbing excessive and unwanted heat that is produced within the laptop. It works by transferring the extra heat into a fluid medium. Doing so cools the air and ultimately reduces the temperature inside the device.

Why would you replace a fan?

Over time, the fan inside of your Dell device will get old. If it stops working, you will need to replace it. The fan is a vital part of the desktop as a whole. Without it, your device can overheat and stop working.

How do you replace a CPU fan?

To start with, you need to ensure you have the right model of fan for your desktop. You can do this by finding the model of your computer and comparing that to the list of compatible model numbers listed for the particular CPU fan. This is necessary in order to have all the necessary cables that are appropriate for your computer. The replacement will require that you have tools, such as screwdrivers. To start the process, you will need to turn off your device. From here, the process will vary depending on the model you own. Here are the basic steps to give you a general idea of the process for a desktop:

  • Step 1: Remove the side panel, and open up the tower.
  • Step 2: Locate the fan, and remove it. This could require unscrewing it and separating cables that are attached to the computer.
  • Step 3: If you have the right model, you should be able to connect the new fan back with the same cables and connect it just as it was before.
  • Step 4: Put the side panel back on, and test to see if everything is working.
