Car Subwoofers

Are you an audio enthusiast who appreciates the rich and full sound a bass-heavy audio system brings? If so, then a subwoofer is a must-have component for your car audio system. A proper subwoofer for your vehicle is key to ensuring an adequately-tuned sound system with bass that will impress.

What is a subwoofer?

A subwoofer is a type of speaker specifically used to produce low-end bass frequencies. When you hear a loud bass sound coming from an audio system, it is most likely coming from the subwoofer. The more commonly-sized subs for audio enthusiasts have a diameter of 12 or 15 inches. However, larger sizes are available depending on the type of system you are wanting to power.

Why should you get subwoofers for your car sound system?

The inclusion of subs in your cars audio system will provide the low-end frequencies needed to complement your higher-frequency speakers. Even if you are not looking for an excessive amount of bass, a sub is a great way to introduce a full range of sound and bring added life to your cars audio system. Regardless of your purpose, you will also need an amplifier to power them properly.

Where should you install your car subwoofers?

You will want to make sure your sub is placed in a location that does not disrupt the operation of your car or your passengers while also maintaining sound integrity. Many people choose to mount their subs in the rear area of their vehicle, such as the trunk.

How do you install car subwoofers?

Installation may vary depending on your car type and desired placement. Generally speaking, however, the steps you follow should be similar.

  • Identify installation location: Before beginning any work, you want to make sure you know exactly where your subs will be placed and the route in which you will run your cables and speaker wire. When making this determination, be sure to find a route where your wires and cables will be least disrupted by the weather and other elements while also providing accessibility if needed.
  • Mount your speakers: Once youve determined your speaker location and have mapped out your wiring, you will need to securely mount your speakers. If you have large speakers, you will most likely need a box. You can install them and pre-wire them to the box before installing it in your vehicle.
  • Run and connect your wiring: Once your sub is mounted into the box, pre-wired, and installed in your car, you can begin running your wires and cables based on the mapping you determined. If you do not already have an amplifier installed, you will need to do this first and run the appropriate wiring to connect your tuner to your amp. This will ensure your subs are getting adequate power. Once this is complete, you can run speaker wires from your amplifier to your newly-mounted subs.
