Justice League of America comic books created during the Bronze Age of Comic Books span from 1970 to 1985. These comics chronicle major events that occurred within the ranks of the Justice League during that time period, which were similar in nature to the events of the previous Silver Age. The main changes in the Bronze Age comics were darker plot elements and stories that were more relevant to the social issues of that time.

What is the Justice League of America?

It is a team of DC Comics superheroes who come together in order to take down a threat that can't be stopped by only one of them alone. The members and origins of this team have changed numerous times throughout the years, typically coinciding with a massive event or reboot within the DC line of comics.

The Justice League of America first appeared as a team in the comic The Brave and the Bold, issue 28, in 1960 and was conceived by an American writer by the name of Gardner Fox. Later that same year, the team received their first comic book title, referred to as "Justice League of America." It was shown in a flashback in 1962 that the main event that caused the formation of the team was the infiltration of Earth by alien warriors known as Appellaxians.

Who are the members of the Justice League of America?

In its original incarnation, the seven members of the JLA were Superman, Green Lantern, Aquaman, Flash, Batman, Wonder Woman, and Martian Manhunter. Through the years, the number of members and makeup of the team have changed on a consistent basis, creating new and fresh dynamics to play out in the comics. Some of the additional superheroes who have joined the team include Shazam, Atom, Green Arrow, Cyborg, Hawkman, Hawkgirl, Black Canary, and Zatanna. Throughout the Bronze Age, alliances within the team would shift and alter depending on events that occurred in the main storyline.

What was significant about Bronze Age Justice League of America comics?

The Bronze Age of Comic Books that began in 1970 was notable for introducing darker and more epic storylines into the DC series, including the comics involving the Justice League. One of the more notable aspects of this particular period was that the Justice League would team up with the Justice Society of America, a separate superhero team that was started in the early 1940s and existed in what DC then called "Earth-Two." Toward the end of the Bronze Age, the Justice League on "Earth-One" and the Justice Society of America on "Earth-Two" were merged in a popular limited series known as the "Crisis on Infinite Earths." The Bronze Age also saw the heroes of the Justice League adjusting to their new headquarters in New England while expanding to bring in new heroes.
