Bicycle Flashing Lights

Bicycle lights work along with flashers to make you more visible to motorists when you are riding your bike in dim or dark lighting conditions. The LED light is designed to flash and attract the attention of oncoming and same-direction traffic. This way, drivers can see you from a great enough distance and give you enough space to pass.

What are the features of flashing lights for bicycles?

You'll find these lights come with several beneficial features, and they are the following:

  • Clip-on attachment: LEDs for bicycles often attach with a clip-on clamp or clasp. This allows you to remove the bike lights after you are done cycling. Having the clip-on attachment for LED bike lights can reduce the risk of theft.
  • Rechargeable batteries: LEDs for cyclists often come with rechargeable batteries. This allows you to remove the battery from the light and charge them whenever it is convenient to you. Because LEDs only consume a little power when they are flashing, a typical battery provides up to 800 hours of illumination when cycling at night.
  • High luminous efficiency: LED lights for cycling have a high luminous efficiency. Nearly all of the energy that goes into the LED is converted into light. As a cyclist, this means enhanced visibility so that drivers can see you. The bright flashing red light on the wheels and back of the bike and a white flashing light on the front of your bike allow you to be seen from every direction.
Where do you put flashing bike lights?

You might be surprised to discover how many different places you can put these lights. Listed below are some of the common places you can put a light:

  • Wheels or spokes: The tires of bicycles are typically outfitted with two or more reflectors on the spokes or rims. Installing a highly visible flashing rear light allows the waves of light energy to bounce off of the reflectors, further enhancing the ability of drivers to see you.
  • Handlebars: You may also consider installing flashing lights on the handlebars of your bike. The bars are a convenient place to clip on the LED lights. Placing the LEDs on the front of your bicycle allows oncoming traffic to see you. The light also helps you to see traffic signs and lane markings on the road.
  • Seat post: A flashing rear light should also be placed on the seat post of your bike. With each flash of the LED, you will be more visible to drivers. The flash of the rear lights attracts the attention of people who are sharing the road with you at night.
  • Helmet: Consider putting a flashing LED on the sides or back of your bike helmet. The flash of the light on your protective headgear from time to time makes drivers notice you and your bike.
How do bicycle lights work?

The LEDs use 3 to 12 volts of electricity supplied by an AA, C, or D cell battery or battery bank to provide light. The LEDs have two leads that use a semiconductor. When the diode receives electricity, electrons are attracted to the electron holes in the diode. Their activation causes an energy release in the form of photons that release light.
