Tablets are similar to laptop computers for one simple reason — they offer many of the functions of a computer without the bulk. By adding a keyboard or mouse attachment, it is possible for many tablets to function just like a computer. A digital eBook reader, on the other hand, is designed to allow you to easily read from an online library of books in a portable form.

Tablets and digital eBook readers often offer very similar functionality. In addition to offering the ability to read books from the owner's library, eBook readers often allow users to download a variety of apps and programs. Traditional tablets generally offer eBook reader programs that make it possible to access that same online library. However, tablets often have greater RAM capacity, which enables them to run faster. Users who plan to use their device primarily for apps and movies might prefer the increased RAM capacity of a tablet. Additionally, traditional tablets will generally have LCD screens for full HD video while eBook readers will have E-ink screens, which are considered easier for reading text. Tablets may also allow for more accessories with USB and HDMI ports.

The numbers 1920x1080 describe the resolution of your display screen, which is a measurement of the number of pixels visible on the screen, not a measurement in inches. Since this is the standard resolution for full HD video, it generally offers plenty of picture clarity for most readers. The actual size of a tablet or eBook reader will vary.

The amount of RAM you'll need for your tablet or eBook reader will depend on how you plan on using your device. If you want the capacity to stream movies and video in HD, play games, or run other apps that use a high volume of memory, a higher RAM count will ensure crisper performance. • Do you plan on traveling frequently with your tablet? A smaller tablet will weigh less and fit more easily in your purse or bag.
• Do you plan to use your tablet for gaming? A bigger display screen may make it easier to see what's going on in your game.
• Where will you use your tablet? If you're going to be at home on your couch or at work in your office, you may appreciate the decreased eyestrain of a tablet with a larger monitor.
• How's your vision? If you struggle to see small text, a larger tablet or eBook reader will make it easier for you to read the words on the screen.
